ROM Review - Future Pinball - Mad Scientist 2: The Chemicals MOD
This is a quality table. Not the greatest ever, but it will probably give you more entertainment time than it takes to download and get running. What else do you want you freeloading bum?
All the rules to the game are actually in the table info for once. It would be nice to know where the goals are on the table though. Labels or audio clues would be helpful. Which one of those things is the Elixir of Life anyway? Maybe figuring that out is supposed to be part of the game. *shrug*
The color change to the black ball looks great on this table, but only lasts for a few seconds. The as soon as the ball drops into a target, it gets swapped out for a silver ball.
Multi-ball is bugged big time. Every time you lose one of your multi-balls, it counts as a lost ball in the game. If you get multi-ball on your first ball, you will never use the plunger again. Cool if you are lazy. Not cool if you want to enjoy a game.
Regular play is bugged too. Occasionally your ball will just disappear. It doesn't get registered as a lost ball, so you are just stuck. There is a work around to this though. The creator made a key to press to release another ball. Not very annoying, but not top notch.
If you get frustrated with this game, smack it around (z,/, The artwork is decent, but with so many versions of this game released, it could have been refined more by now. What the hell is all that stuff? I think it's supposed to be lightning, but could just as well be spider webs. The last little annoyance is the middle ramp. I like the idea behind it. When you hit it though, there is a long pause for user selection. If you aren't looking at the scoreboard, it feels like the game is stuck. There should be an audio clue telling you to select something. The scoreboard is useful. I love it when table designers go the extra distance with this. It looks great too. Overall, this game is way better than average. Worth a look. You might not save it in your favorites, but you should get some use out of it.
